Astley & Tyldesley hosted the Manchester League Junior Individual
Championships under the Gin Pit floodlights on Tuesday evening.
In the U-13 category, Astley & Tyldesley riders enjoyed a clean sweep of
the trophies. Rob Longworth raced unbeaten, and recorded his personal best time,
on his way to winning the title. Becky Heslop dropped just one point to the
winner, with 3rd place Marvin Kinlock a further point behind.
Bury's Ben Scranage lined up as the favourite to win the U-16 event, but his
chances disappeared with a gate exclusion in heat 12. This let in team mate Tom
Doyle, who effectively clinched the title when beating his nearest challenger,
Tameside's Chris Eaton in heat 15, despite Scranage winning the race. Doyle went
on to pick up his first title, ahead of Eaton, with Scranage beating Rob
Longworth in a run-off for 3rd place.
Bury's Rob Pearce was untroubled as he recorded a 20 points maximum to retain
his U-19 title. Three riders tied on 17 points and lined up in a run-off for the
minor placings. Chris Eaton was excluded from grid 1 for moving before the
start. In the re-run Tameside's Mark Wylie gated round from grid 4 to clinch 2nd
place overall ahead of Tom Doyle.
