Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare / CTA Direct recorded their first
Midlands / North League Division 2 win of the season at Gin Pit on Sunday,
beating Hull 86-63. On a hot, sunny day, A & T were inspired by their two
new Polish signings, who were simply tremendous. 19 years old Tomasz Wlodarczyk,
from Czestochowa, raced unbeaten by an opponent and formed a strong pairing with
captain Damien Hack, who also raced unbeaten by an opponent. 18 years old
Przemek Binkowski, from Torun, won his last three races, after an unfortunate
start which saw him slip whilst well ahead in heat 3 and then suffer a gate
exclusion in a four times re-run heat 6. His winning time of 42.72 seconds in
the last race was easily the fastest of the day and just 0.9 seconds off the
long standing track record. Veteran Steve Mills put in a great performance,
dropping just two points to an opponent, with a fine score from Mark Wylie, who
won two races.
Hull restricted A & T to a three points lead after heat 6, but then the
home side pulled away to win convincingly. Andy Schofield, Andy Moody, Chris
Cooke and Darren Spencer all won a race each for the Humbersiders.
