Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare / CTA Direct wrapped up their Midlands
/ North League Division 2 campaign with a trip to Hull on Sunday. A & T
fielded their strongest line-up for a few weeks, but so did Hull, and the home
side ended up winners in an entertaining and sporting match.
Hull took the lead in heat 2 and never lost it but a spirited display by A
& T kept them in contention throughout. A & T welcomed back Russ Holland
and he top scored, with solid contributions from Damien Hack (beaten only by
Andy Schofield) and Mark Wylie. For Hull, veteran Andy Schofield gets better
each year with age and he completed his maximum with a last bend pass on Hack in
the last race. Hull had greater strength in depth and this was the deciding
factor.
