Astley & Tyldesley's junior cycle speedway
squad are on a high after a great win in Sunday's Northern Junior League match
at Heckmondwike. Four times winners of this league in the 1990s, it has been
four years since A & T last won a round of this series. However, that barren
spell was ended in style as the team reached the 100 points mark to not only win
on the day, but also to move to the top of the table, after four of the
eight rounds in the series.
Leading the A & T challenge was Becky Heslop,
who recorded her first ever maximum score for A & T, winning all her four
races by a convincing margin in the U-13 category. The rest of the A
& T riders all scored highly in their respective categories, with David
Greenough scoring a creditable 9 points on his debut, in the U-13 category.

Astley & Tyldesley put in a much improved
performance in the Northern Senior Fours League match at Heckmondwike. The
return of Steve Mills made a big impact as he won two races to score an
impressive 12 points. Skipper Damien Hack recorded his best ever score at this
level, also winning two races and dropping just two points. However, despite a
valiant effort from A & T, it was Sheffield who ran out winners, with
Tameside pipping A & T by just 1 point for 2nd place on the day.
