Sun 4th September | Northern Fours & Junior League Rd. 6 | Tameside | |
Astley & Tyldesley travelled to Stockport for the 6th and penultimate round of the Northern Fours & Junior League series. A & T have led the Fours League all season, but the home Tameside club won their match in hand on A & T to level the positions, and then took victory over A & T in the other Fours League match of the day to move to the top of the table, by one point. Once again, A & T's two Polish riders refused to turn out for the club, but there was a much better atmosphere in the team without them. A & T's former Stockport riders Chris Finnigan and George Hughes both revelled in a return to their former home track. Finnigan pulled off the ride of the day in heat 12 when he dived inside Bury's Paul Dyson and raced away for the win, with new British Champion Terry Norman back in third place. A & T put in a good disciplined team performance to take 2nd place, ahead of Bury and Scotia, a result that still keeps them in contention to win the league. Northern Fours League match result.
