Astley & Tyldesley took on British Team Champions, Leicester, in a Midlands/North League Division 1 match at Gin Pit on Sunday. The visitors fielded a strong line-up, as they prepared for next week's British Team Cup match with Stoke. Leicester controlled the match from the start, winning eleven of the eighteen heats, to run out 105-70 winners. For A & T, Damian Zareba won his first four races, including a great pass on fellow Pole Lukasz Nowacki in heat 12. However, Nowacki gained his revenge, combining with teammate Craig Marchant, to take a 7-3 over Zareba in heat 17. Remi Burchardt won two races for A & T. For Leicester, Nowacki and Daniel Pike lost only to Zareba, whilst Mark Whitehead lost only to Burchardt. It was a similar story in the Combination match, as a more experienced Leicester side easily saw off A & T. Ben Holloway and Carl Jarvis raced unbeaten for the visitors. Joe Allen top scored for A & T in his first match.
