There was an excellent turn-out of riders for the opening round of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club on Wednesday evening. A slickly promoted event saw 36 races staged in 1 hour 35 minutes, on a well prepared race track.

Astley & Tyldesley's two Polish stars dominated proceedings in the Senior event, with Damian Zareba again racing unbeaten, and with Remi Burchardt losing only to his compatriot. Astley & Tyldesley won the Senior Team event, with the top five points scorers from each team counting to their team total in this competition.

Bury just edged out Astley & Tyldesley in the Junior Team event. Astley & Tyldesley pair of John Nuttall and Warren Mee raced unbeaten in the U-13 and U-16 events respectively, with Bury's Chris Parish the sole U-19 rider, and therefore also unbeaten. Races for the U-16s and U-19s were combined, with the scores subsequently adjusted into the two categories.
