Sun 6th August | Astley & Tyldesley v Hull | Astley & Tyldesley | |
Astley & Tyldesley put themselves in a strong position for a place in the end of season Midlands/North League Play-Offs with a hard fought home win over Hull on Sunday. Once again, conditions were hot, with the track slippery, despite plenty of watering. Disaster struck for A & T in heat 3, when Damien Hack took a heavy fall whilst leading, and team mate Tomasz Szwajorek wrecked his bike as two riders piled into Hack. Hack was excluded from the re-run, but continued for the rest of the match, although struggling. A subsequent trip to hospital revealed that he had broken his left arm, and he faces several weeks on the sidelines. Despite this A & T pulled away to establish a commanding 18 points lead at the interval, with the Darek Kurkowski / Trevor Hulton pairing taking two 7-2 heat wins. Hull rallied in the 2nd half, restricting the home team to just one maximum heat win, but A & T ran out convincing 100-75 winners. A & T's three Poles led the way, each dropping just one point, with solid back-up from the rest of the team. For Hull, Andy Angell caused a few problems with his aggressive riding, winning two races, as did the more consistent Darren Spencer. Corey Graham's score was restricted by two machine failures. Midlands/North League Division 1 result: Astley & Tyldesley MWC 100 Hull / Kingston Cycles 75.
