On Saturday evening, Astley & Tyldesley staged a special charity event, in
conjunction with the region's BMX riders and officials from the Mid-Lancs
BMX Club. 30 BMX riders took part in a meeting that was affected by heavy
rain, but despite the weather dished up some spectacular cycle speedway
racing on their BMX bikes under the Gin Pit floodlights. The real winner
was Derian House Children's Hospice at Chorley, who will benefit to the
tune of £200 raised at the event. Thanks go to Simon Barber for having the
vision to organise such a successful and novel event.
