The North hosted the British Individual Championship Finals Weekend,
featuring Britain's top cycle speedway racers. Astley & Tyldesley staged
qualifying rounds on Saturday and Sunday. At Gin Pit, Lewis Bates, Steve
Harris and Ben Scranage all jointly top scored with 17 on Saturday, whilst
Mark Boaler, Daniel Pike and Phil Howells all jointly top scored with 18
on Sunday. A & T captain Chris Finnigan progressed from the qualifiers at
Hull and Stockport, after scoring 15 and 17 points respectively, to take
his place in Monday's Senior Final at Bury. As ever, Chris was in the
thick of the action, and he finished in 11th place overall, after scoring
a creditable 10 points in the final. Wednesfield's Lee Aris took the title
with a 20 points maximum, ahead of Southampton pair Shaun Woodhouse and
Gavin Wheeler.
