Sun 28th May | Astley & Tyldesley v Stockport | Astley & Tyldesley | |
Astley & Tyldesley took on local rivals Stockport 2006 in a Midlands/North League encounter at Gin Pit on Sunday. The track was well watered beforehand, but dried out quickly in the windy conditions. A & T lined up without skipper Chris Finnigan, but Stockport were missing three first teamers in Danny White, Paul Ogden and Jeff Radcliffe, in a match which also doubled up in the Northern Alliance League. Stockport quickly took control with two maximum heat wins, to take an 8 points lead after just three races. This was extended to 14 points by heat 10, forcing the home team to claim inside grids. A & T then launched a fight back, and recorded two maximum heat wins in the second half, but Stockport held on to win 92-85. The visitors deserved their win, as A & T made too many errors which proved to be costly. Midlands/North League Division 1 match result: Astley & Tyldesley MWC 85 Stockport 92.
