Sun 3rd June Astley & Tyldesley v Leicester Astley & Tyldesley

A & T entertained British Club Champions Leicester in a Premier League match at Gin Pit on Sunday. Once again, A & T had key riders missing, and despite A & T's Polish trio being in magnificent form, Leicester exploited their strength in depth, to run out commanding winners 102-75. The first four races were shared, but Leicester took a 7-3 in heat 5 and pulled away after that. They gave a very professional display, packing the minor places behind A & T's Poles, and then hitting hard when A & T's second string riders were paired up. Skipper Tomasz Wlodarczyk (pictured leading) raced unbeaten for A & T, with Remi Burchardt and Darek Kurkowski in top form against strong opposition. The latter duo both suffered an exclusion apiece in the closing stages of the match, which made the margin of Leicester's win much greater than the 13 points lead they had held at the end of heat 12. For Leicester, Lukasz Nowacki and Daniel Pike both lost once to Wlodarczyk, whilst Norman Venson rode unbeaten from reserve.
