Wed 15th August Heckmondwike v Astley & Tyldesley Heckmondwike


Astley & Tyldesley exacted swift revenge for their home defeat by Heckmondwike last Sunday, by winning the re-arranged return in West Yorkshire on Wednesday evening. A & T were bolstered by the return of former European Junior Champion, Remi Burchardt, but the home team, buoyed by their win three days earlier, were in competitive form. A & T's Polish trio were in great form, winning most of the races, but Heckmondwike kept packing the minor places to share the points. A & T held a slender 2 points lead before Darek Kurkowski and Remi Burchardt took maximum points from outside grids over James Carter and Darren Kent, in heat 10 to put the visitors in command. Another maximum heat win, from Burchardt and Tomasz Wlodarczyk in the final heat, sealed victory for A & T.

Burchardt and Wlodarczyk both raced unbeaten, with Kurkowski losing only once to Carter and veteran Roy Heslop scoring some vital points to support the top trio. A & T won 80-70, to move off the bottom of the Northern League, swapping places with Heckmondwike.
