Sun 20th May Astley & Tyldesley v Sheffield Astley & Tyldesley

Plenty of hard work took place to get the track right for Sunday's match against Sheffield. Both sides were looking for their first wins in the Premier League, after both had their earlier wins chalked off, following Bury's expulsion from the league. On a bright sunny day, a tremendous match took place on an excellent surface. A & T took an early 4 points lead after heat 3, but Sheffield quickly levelled and then moved into a 6 points lead after heat 11. Back came A & T to reduce the deficit to 1 point with two races to go. With the tension mounting, A & T gave it their all, but were unable to make the necessary breakthrough and Sheffield held on to win a great match, 89-88. Remi Burchardt scored a great 20 points maximum, with Darek Kurkowski (pictured) winning four of his five races. There were several races where A & T can look back at, as crucial points that got away. A & T were gating better, but Sheffield were fitter and faster, and pulled off several passes which ultimately proved decisive.
