Sat 23rd June Veterans British Club Championships Astley & Tyldesley

Gin Pit was the venue for the Veterans British Club Championships on Saturday. All riders competing were aged over 40, with an impressive array of former British and World Champions on view. A great day's racing took place, in front of a decent crowd, with the track in excellent condition. Edinburgh (pictured) took the victory by a comfortable margin, to win their first ever British team title, albeit without any riders who speak with a Scottish accent! Leicester beat Wednesfield in a tie break to take second place, whilst the home Astley & Tyldesley club took fifth place, narrowly seeing off Sheffield. Best for A & T was Frank Finnigan, making his first appearance in nine months, who won his first race before tiring later on. The Mayor of Wigan, Councillor John O'Brien, presented the awards to the top three teams, with the match sponsored by the Astley Rotary Club. Ipswich were a late withdrawal from the staging.
