Stockport staged the opening round of the new Northern
Individual Grand Prix series on a wet Sunday. The Stockport circuit was
notoriously slimey in the wet, making conditions difficult for the riders,
with slippery starting grids adding to the situation. Ben Dickenson and
Jason Elliott both reached the U-16 Grand Prix Final, with Ben finishing
third after a fall and Jason excluded for moving at the start. Remi
Burchardt raced unbeaten in the Senior qualifiers, with Tomasz Wlodarczyk
droppping just one point to Remi. In the Grand Prix Final, Remi drew the
graveyard grid 1, spun right round and finished third. Tomasz came round
from grid 4 and chased the race leader, Darren Kent of Heckmondwike, for
three laps, before pulling off a fine pass to go round Kent on the last
lap to take the win. Mike Hack finished fourth in the Veterans Grand Prix
Final, whilst Joel Partington didn't register in time and wasn't allowed
to compete in the U-13s category.
