Astley & Tyldesley were well represented in the 6th and final round of
the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Stockport. On a very dry
track, A & T's youngsters once again turned in some sterling
performances, before being pipped again by Stockport, by 2 points on the
night, in the Junior (Division 2) match.
Adam Turnbull and Max Evans made some impressive starts in the U-10
match, but couldn't keep out the more powerful James Elston, of Bury,
who raced unbeaten. Ross Green enjoyed his best match in Team Green
colours and he has made quick progress since joining the club. Adam
Phillips raced unbeaten in the U-13 match, with Joel Partington in good
form, dropping just 2 points. Reece Pollitt and Alex Green battled well
for their points, but Stefan Whitelegg was well down on points after
borrowing bikes and taking a fall first time out. Luke Jamson and
Matthew Turnbull both dropped just one point each in the U-19 match,
with Luke showing a good turn of speed against the home riders.

Congratulations go to Adam Turnbull and Adam Phillips on winning the
Manchester League Grand Prix series, at u-10 and u-13 levels
respectively.
Stockport won the Division 2 title, scoring 19.5 match points, ahead of
A & T on 14.5, with Bury third on 8 and Sheffield fourth on 2. To show
how close run the league series was, Stockport scored only 14 race
points more than A & T over the 6 round series, an average of 2 per
match! A & T's race points total this season was 436, which was actually
an improvement on last year's total of 429, which was sufficient to win
the league title last year. So, well done to the A & T riders, who have
improved on last year, but at a lower rate than Stockport's improvement
(450 this year, 426 last year).
Luke Jamson started off well, before suffering two falls in the Senior
(Division 1) match, as Terry Norman raced unbeaten. Stockport recorded
another easy win, to retain the Division1 team title, finishing with 18
match points. Bury finished second in the final league table, with 11.5
points, ahead of A & T third on 6.5, with Sheffield fourth on 1.
