Astley & Tyldesley staged their first home match of the season at Gin
Pit, against Sheffield Rockets, on Sunday. Two young sides took to the
track for a Northern Combination League match and a great match took
place, on a bright and warm afternoon. The first three races were
shared, before Sheffield took the lead with a 7-3 in heat 4, but A & T
leveled the scores in the next race. The match was still level after
nine races, but A & T sealed the match with four successive heat wins,
to take a 72-58 lead after heat 13, eventually winning the match 81-69.
Adam Phillips raced unbeaten, with Joel Partington and Stefan Whitelegg
losing once each to Sheffield's best rider Kyle Brough. The rest of A &
T's youngsters were all in the thick of the action, turning in a great
team display, as A & T christened their new racing shirts in fine style.
