Sat 31st July | Under 13s British Club Championships | Kesgrave | |
Astley & Tyldesley made the long trip to Suffolk to compete in the U-13 British Club Championships at Kesgrave. The track was wet and greasy following morning rain, but fortunately the rain held off during the meeting. A & T were drawn in the 2nd semi-final and set off well with Adam Phillips winning heat 1. Disaster struck A & T in heat 4 when Norwich's Oliver Riley fell and Ross Green subsequently rode into him, landing heavily in the process. After a delay whilst he received treatment, Ross took his place in the re-run, with Riley excluded, but pulled up within half a lap and took no further part in the match. Adam Phillips continued his winning ways and completed an impressive 16 points maximum score. Reece Pollitt improved after a tentative opening race to record three third places, with Alex Green showing plenty of effort but for little reward. Kesgrave ran out easy winners, with Leicester emerging as the other qualifiers after a battle throughout for the second qualifying spot. The lack of a scoring fourth rider ended A & T's chances of reaching a British Club Championship Final for the first time since 2000. Ipswich won the final, finishing ahead of Poole and Kesgrave, with Leicester a distant fourth. U-13 British Club Championship 2nd Semi-Final match, at Kesgrave.
