Sat 2nd June British Veterans Club Championship Leicester

Astley & Tyldesley fielded a team in the British Veterans Club Championship at Leicester on Saturday.

A & T were one of six teams who lined up in the 1st semi-final. It quickly became split into two matches, with Horspath, Leicester and East London locked in battle for the two final qualifying places, whilst A & T, Edinburgh and Swindon were aiming to take 4th place in the match. Edinburgh held a slender lead over A & T at the end of the second, third and fourth round of races, with Swindon adrift in 6th place. However, A & T finished strongly, with Roy Heslop beating Ian McKinlay in heat 25, followed by Ron Makin beating Dave Baxter in the next race to level the scores. Heat 27 saw Mike Hack beat Edinburgh's top rider John Murphy and that was sufficient to clinch the target of 4th place on the day for A & T. This was a good solid performance by A & T, with all the team chipping in with vital points.

Leicester and East London narrowly edged out Horspath to progress to the final. Leicester were convincing winners of the final, finishing ahead of Wednesfield, East London and Poole respectively.

A & T moved onto 32 points and are in 7th place in the overall British Club Championships series, after five of the seven rounds ridden.
