Astley & Tyldesley held their Club Individual Championships under the
Gin Pit floodlights on Tuesday evening. 36 riders entered the
Championships, a record number of entries in the Club's 22 years
history! The Championships were split into three matches - under 8s;
under 12s; 13s and over. The track was in excellent condition and a
great evening's sport took place on a cold but dry evening.
15 riders contested the u-8s event, raced on the 20 heats formula.
Newcomer Rhys Burgess beat another newcomer Ben Dickinson in a run-off
for 1st place, after both had finished on 19 points. There was another
run-off to determine 3rd place, which was won by Jack Robinson over the
highest scoring girl Emily Burgess, after both riders had scored 18
points. Jack recorded the fastest time of the match, 44.12 seconds, when
winning the run-off. Special mention goes to John White who, at 5 years
old, was the youngest rider in the field, but scored an impressive 16
points.

Northern U-10s champion Max Evans raced to a 20 points maximum to win
the event. Newcomer Ciaran Collins was runner-up, dropping his only
point to Max, after leading the race for two laps when the two riders
met in heat 7. Third place went to Daniel Burns, who dropped his only
points in that all important heat 7. Max Evans recorded the fastest time
of the match, 50.96 seconds, when winning heat 1. Special mention goes
to Matthew Snell who, at 8 years old, was the youngest rider in the
field, but scored an impressive 17 points and to Jessica Burgess, who
was the highest placed girl, after scoring 15 points.

Last up was the 13s and over event, with 7 riders competing on the 9
riders 12 heats formula. Defending champion Reece Pollitt was in no mood
to relinquish the title and he won every race convincingly to retain his
title, with a 16 points maximum score. Ron Makin held off Roy Heslop to
win the last race to take 2nd place overall, with Roy finishing 3rd
overall and newcomer Marc Osmand just out of the frame. Reece Pollitt
recorded the fastest time of the match, 49.86 seconds, when winning heat
9.
