Astley & Tyldesley staged a double header meeting at a bright, but very
windy Gin Pit venue on Sunday afternoon.
First match up saw A & T take on
the reformed Newcastle Nomads in a veterans challenge match. The
Geordies took the lead with a 6-4 in heat 1 and steadily pulled away
throughout the match to run out convincing 87-63 winners. Jason Keith
and Gavin Parr both raced unbeaten, with a very solid scoring back-up
throughout the team. A & T's Will Evans took a heavy fall after
colliding with Fred Mitchell in heat 7, resulting in a hospital trip
after sustaining a cut eye and lip. Fred Rothwell top scored for the
home team, with George Hughes winning two races in the second half of
the match. Michael Parr recorded the fastest time of the match, 43.00
seconds, when winning heat 1.
