Stockport hosted Round 5 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series on
Wednesday evening. Heavy rain during the day left the track raceable,
but slippery in places, including the starting grids, which made for
some eventful races.
In the U-10s match, Max Evans raced to his fifth consecutive maximum
score in this series. Callum Maguire and Matt Snell pulled off some
great passes as they turned in some determined and impressive races,
whilst the Waterworth sisters rode gamely for their points. Daniel Burns
turned in another steady display in the U-13s match, whilst Ciaran
Collins made a most impressive debut, which included a race win, beating
much more experienced opponents on his way to an 11 points score. Bury's
Adam Watson was taken to hospital, after suffering a nasty gash to his
head, when losing control and catching the outer kerb on the home
straight in his last ride. Reece Pollitt scored a hard earned total of 9
points in the U-16s match, taking vital points off opposing riders.
The collective efforts of all A & T's junior riders meant that A & T
finished 2nd on the night and enter the last round of the series with a
2 points lead over Stockport, with Bury now out of contention. There was
a great team spirit amongst the riders, as they gave it their all in
their bid to win the Division 2 (junior team) competition.
A & T must avoid finishing two places behind Stockport in the final
round of the series at Bury on Wednesday 29th August, to win the League
for the first time since 2009. The key to this will be getting as many A
& T riders as possible to turn out in all junior categories, so that our
riders are not taking points off each other by racing each other on more
than one occasion. So, let's have a really good turn out for this last
round, to ensure that Team Green win the 2012 Manchester League Division
2.
Congratulations go to Max Evans on clinching 1st place in the Manchester
League U-10 Grand Prix series.
