Stockport hosted Round 2 of the
Manchester League Grand Prix series on Wednesday evening. Plenty of good
racing took place on a fast, well prepared track, with a good turn out
of riders.
Defending champions Stockport bounced back from their opening round 3rd
place to take the win in the Division 2 (junior match), primarily by
dominating the U-16 and U-19 categories. A & T just pipped Bury to take
2nd place on the night and retain their leadership of the series after 2
rounds.
Max Evans raced unbeaten in the U-10 match, with double figure scores
from the ever trying Tom Whitwam and debutant Daniel Smith-Makin, whilst
young John White rode his heart out in each race. Stefan Whitelegg
scored 9 in the U-13 match, finishing the last race despite sustaining a
thumb injury in the first run of that race. Finally, Reece Pollitt
continued his recent improvement by taking four second places in the
U-16 match.
A & T will need better turn-outs of riders for subsequent rounds, if we
are to retain our position as league leaders.

15 riders lined up for the senior (Division 1) event. There was plenty
of cut and thrust racing, as Stockport made it a second team win on the
night. Roy Heslop and Ron Makin battled hard for A & T against much
younger and faster opposition.
