Astley & Tyldesley hosted Round 1 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Wednesday evening. The weather continued its pattern for most of April by raining steadily throughout the match, but the track surface held up well to provide a really good race circuit, under the Gin Pit floodlights.

A & T ran out winners in the Division 2 (junior) match, finishing ahead of Bury, with last year's winners, Stockport, in third place. Max Evans rode to a fine 16 points maximum in the U-10 match, with strong back-up from Callum Maguire and Tom Whitwam, who both dropped just two points each, to finish on 14. Stefan Whitelegg was A & T's to scorer in the U-13 match, finishing on 13 points, whilst Daniel Burns was A & T's fifth scoring rider on the night, in taking 11 points. The efforts of the other A & T riders was important in beating opposition riders, to reduce the total points scored by opposing teams.

Bury won the Division 1 (senior) match, finishing ahead of last year's winners, Stockport, with A & T third. Both Ron Makin and Roy Heslop can feel well satisfied with their haul of points against much younger opposition.
