A&T made the long trek to Cramlington to take on the Northumbria Vikings
in a Northern League fixture on Sunday. The new temporary track had been
under water on Saturday, but hard work by the home club saw it in a
raceable condition. Unfortunately, the track cut up badly on the bends,
making conditions difficult and extremely strength sapping.
Northumbria ran out convincing winners in the Division 1 match, in an
entertaining match on a small, but very wide circuit. The Parr brothers
and Terry Kirkup raced unbeaten for Northumbria, whilst the Graham
brothers were best for A&T, with some clever team riding to shepherd
their partners home to spilt the team points in several races.
Northern League Division 1 match result

The six riders that A&T tracked for the Division 2 match had all raced
in the first match, whilst Northumbria had the luxury of fielding a
separate line-up. With a rider failing to turn up for A&T, the lack of
an A&T substitute proved crucial in the Division 2 match, as clever use
of both substitutes by Northumbria saw the fresh legs overcome A&T's
tired legs in the closing stages of the match. A&T took a 4 points lead
after heat 5, but were pegged back late on for Northumbria to take a
narrow 77-72 win. Mike Hack, Mark Graham, Ron Makin and Becky Heslop all
won races for Team Green.
