Astley & Tyldesley entertained Stockport for a Northern League encounter
at Gin Pit on Sunday. The recent drought continued, which made for a dry
track, despite plenty of watering before and during the meeting.
Stockport showed why they have won the Division 1 title for the past
three years and are currently unbeaten in this year's campaign, racing
to a convincing 95-55 win. A&T got off to a disastrous start when Paul
Graham fell heavily after tangling with Terry Norman on the first bend
in heat 1. Although a re-run with all four riders was called, Paul was
forced to pull out of the match after suffering hand and knee injuries.
This left A&T to replace their number 1 rider with two young reserves
for the whole match. Stockport quickly took control of the match and led
54-26 at the break. A&T rallied after the interval, with young Reece
Pollitt taking three excellent race wins, including two over former
British Champion Terry Norman. The result was never in doubt though, as
Stockport rode to a 95-55 win and extend their 100% league record. Mat
Lush, Ben Higham and Jake Read all raced unbeaten for the visitors.

The Division 2 match was a completely different story, as Stockport
lined up with just five riders, including two ineligible ones, conceding
39 penalty points. A&T rode steadily throughout the match, to limit
Stockport to reducing the penalty points deficit by just 6 points, to
run out 108-75 winners. Jake Read and Ben Higham both raced unbeaten for
Stockport, with Joe Pickford losing only to Reece Pollitt in heat 12.
Pollitt was best for A&T, with Ciaran Collins showing good form.
