Astley & Tyldesley hosted Round 1 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Wednesday. A busy night's racing saw 52 races completed across five categories. A&T fielded 17 riders on the night, with many of those making their debuts at this level. Matt Snell dropped just one point to Stockport's James Barry in the u-10 match. Daisy Osmand was a race winner, with the others battling hard. In the u-13 match, Max Evans rode to a 16 points maximum, with Ciaran Collins in great form, dropping his only points to Max and setting a new personal best time. Plenty of effort from the others, but Jessica Burgess had a night to forget, twice falling when well placed in races. Reece Pollitt and Joel Partington contested the u-16 match, but neither could get a race win on the night. With the top five riders' points counting for each team from the four junior categories, it was a very close finish, with Bury just edging clear of Stockport, with A&T third. Both Ron Makin and Roy Heslop gave their best shot, but found points hard to come by, with Roy taking a fall last time out and suffering a cut elbow. Stockport took the win from Bury, with A&T third.
