Astley & Tyldesley welcomed bottom of the table Heckmondwike to Gin Pit
for a Northern League fixture. The track was well watered beforehand,
but quickly dried out on a warm, sunny and windy day. Any hopes A&T had
of repeating their Division 1 match win at Heckmondwike in March were
quickly dispelled, as the visitors shocked the home team by taking four
maximum heat wins in the first six races. A&T rallied with two heat wins
to reduce the deficit to 7 points after heat 9, but the visitors held on
to share the points in three successive races, before rounding off with
two heat wins to take a deserved 82-67 win.
Pawel Idziorek raced unbeaten for Heckmondwike, with Darren Kent losing
only to Paul Graham in heat 8. Laura Watson won three races, with solid
back up from Jake Wood and Adam Watson. Reece Pollitt was deployed as a
tactical reserve for A&T and he lost only to Darren Kent in heat 11.
Paul Graham was in the thick of the action, but he was down on points
following an exclusion after clashing with Kent in heat 5.
