Sun 12th March | Coventry v Astley & Tyldesley | Coventry | |
Astley & Tyldesley took the win in Sunday's pre-season challenge match at Coventry, which was new team manager Lee Phillips' first match in charge. Coventry opened with a first race 7-3 heat win, by the Wassall/Grimes pairing over Pollitt/Evans, but A&T hit back with two 6-4 s and a 6-3, to take the lead after heat 4. The visitors steadily pulled away to open up a 9 points lead after heat 12. Despite a 7-2 win to Coventry in heat 15, to the Grimes/Wassall pair, after Damian Zareba was excluded, A&T kept their lead for the remaining three races, to win 92-86. For Coventry, Myke Grimes lost only to Steve Harris in heat 17. Reece Pollitt top scored for Team Green, unbeaten after a heat 1 reversal, with strong support from Damian Zareba and Steve Harris. This win augurs well for A&T's Northern League campaign which begins on 26th March.
