Wed 19th July Manchester Grand Prix Round 6 Bury

Bury staged the 6th and final round of the Manchester League Grand Prix series on Wednesday evening. Several torrential downpours made for unpleasant conditions, but the riders were undeterred, with several titles up for grabs on the night.

The Astley & Tyldesley pair of Aiden Green and Tom Morrissey both scored 16 point maximums in the u-10s match. Their team mate Duncan Whalley dropped just one point to Aiden and his 15 points score on the night was more than enough to clinch the u-10 Grand Prix series win. Series leader Emily Burgess, of A&T, lined up for the u-13 match, despite fracturing two bones in her wrist eleven days earlier. Her determination took her to an impressive 16 points maximum score on the night and the u-13 Grand Prix title. The Stockport pair of Michael Preston and Louis Wright started the evening as joint leaders in the u-16 series. Michael's two wins over Louis in their last two races of the match proved decisive, with Michael beating Louis by two points on the night, to win the u-16 Grand Prix series. A&T's Reece Pollitt was the lone u-19 rider and his sixth maximum score of the series clinched the u-19 Grand Prix title.

Astley & Tyldesley took their sixth win of the series in the team event, to retain the Division 2 title. A&T's score of 79 points, from their top five riders on the night, set up an all time Manchester League record. Four riders raced unbeaten, with the other dropping just one point to a team mate.

Pollitt beat Read twice in heats 2 and 7, to put real pressure on the series leader. Jake's win from the back, over team mates Ben Higham and Michael Preston, in heat 4 ensured that he held a one point series lead going into the last round of races. He took the race win in heat 11 to secure the Senior Grand Prix title by a single point. Reece raced to an impressive 16 points maximum score on the night, to finish runner-up in the series.
