Sun 3rd June Hull v Astley & Tyldesley Hull

Northern League champions Astley & Tyldesley raced to an easy 103-66 win over Hull in today's Division 1 match at Hessle. Hull could only muster five riders or the match and fell behind in the first race. A&T then took four maximum heat wins, to put the match beyond doubt at an early stage.

Andy Angell raced to a fine 24 points maximum for Hull, but his only support came from Adam Stephenson, with two race wins. A&T riders all scored solidly, with all nine riders recording at least one race win each, to preserve their 100% record this season.

Northern League Division 1 match result:

Hull 66 Astley & Tyldesley 103

A&T loaned Kyle Holland to the home team to bring their numbers up to five, to make a match of it in the Division 2 event. A very young A&T team romped to a convincing 88-55 win on the track, amended to 88-38, after removing points for a borrowed rider. Special mentions to A&T's u-10 riders, Duncan Whalley and Frank White, who excelled in this match, with everyone scoring freely. Tom Morrissey top scored for A&T, losing only to Hull's Jack Lister in heat 9. This win maintains the defending champions 100% record this season.

Many congratulations to our young star Emily Burgess on winning the Women's Welsh Open Championship at Newport yesterday. Emily won her first four races, before finishing second to European Women's Champion, Lauren Hookway, of Exeter. This put both riders level on 19 points, so they met again in a run-off for first place. Emily, who only turned 14 years old this week, took the win to claim the prestigious title! Leicester's Liz Rigley finished 3rd with 18 points, whilst Sheffield's Laura Watson beat team mate Niamh Morton to take 4th place, after both had finished on 17 points.

Emily continues to improve, having taken 2nd in last week's Women's Laurels event at Poole and this was a terrific achievement to finish ahead of several full Gt. Britain team members. A&T's Erin Corrigan turned in a creditable performance in her first women’s match to finish on 9 points, which included a race win.

In the Junior Welsh Open Championship, Max Evans scored a fine 13 points in a tough field, to qualify for the 'A' Final, where he finished in 4th place. Poole's Fraser Garnett won the title, finishing ahead of Wednesfield’s Brandon Whetton and Sheffield’s Ed Morton.
