Astley & Tyldesley's six riders put in an impressive display in the Northern Individual Cycle Speedway Championships at Sheffield, on Sunday. Seven categories were contested on the day, with A&T providing the winner in four of them! Several heavy rain showers interrupted the proceedings, but the Cookson Park track held up superbly and a great day's racing took place. Duncan Whalley raced unbeaten in both the u-13 and u-16 Finals, as well as winning the prize for the fastest time in both matches. This feat was then repeated by both Emily Burgess in the Women's event and by Steve Harris in the Veterans championship. Levi Edwards won his last two races in the u-10s match, to finish joint 7th. In the u-19s match, siblings Emily and Charlie Burgess finished joint 4th after scoring 12 points each. In the Open Final, Steve Harris finished joint 4th, after scoring 15 points. Reece Pollitt was one point behind, a fall and exclusion caused by his handlebar grip coming adrift cost him a likely rostrum place.
