Sun 18th July | Northern Knock-Out Cup | Hull | |
Astley & Tyldesley contested the first Northern area tournament since 2019, racing in the Northern K.O. Cup, at a hot and sunny Hull on Sunday afternoon. A&T got off to the best possible start, by winning the first four races, all from the inside starting position, to lead Bury by 6 points. It was a different story after that though, as A&T struggled to collect points off the outer start positions, with Steve Harris their only other race winner in heat 16. At that point Sheffield led on 44 points, ahead of Bury on 42, A&T on 39 and Hull on 34. The match moved into the last four nominated rider races, and Sheffield sealed the win in the penultimate race, heat 19. Bury finished 2nd overall, while Hull, remarkably, scored 14 points out of a possible 16, in the last round of races, to overhaul A&T for 3rd place.Steve Harris and Reece Pollitt won two races apiece for A&T, on a track which was watered beforehand, but soon dried out on a baking hot day.
