Sun 9th July Hull v Astley & Tyldesley
Div1, 2 and 3
Hull

Astley & Tyldesley pulled off a dramatic late win in our North & Scotland League Division 1 match at Hull this afternoon!

On a hot sunny afternoon, the Hessle track was well watered beforehand, but soon dried out to give dusty conditions, A&T again had several first choice riders missing, so fielded three u-13s and a first year rider, in their 7 rider first team.

Two early Hull 6-4s were cancelled out by an A&T 7-3, followed by three shared heats, to make the scores 30-30 after heat 6. Hull took the lead with a 7-3 in heat 7, and were still leading 66-64 after heat 13. A&T re-took the lead with a 7-3 in heat 14, but Hull immediately hit back with their own 7-3, to lead 76-74 after heat 15. With three nominated heats to come, it was anybody's match. The Frank White/ Steve Harris pair took a 7-3 over Rich Gibson/ Spencer Glenton in heat 16 to put the visitors back in front. Heat 17 proved to be the decisive race. Hull's Jack Lister was unbeaten in his first five races and he again led from the tapes. A&T's John White was in hot pursuit and he chased the leader hard, to the extent that Lister fell on the last lap, whilst trying to retain his lead. White and his team partner Terry Norman gratefully swooped past to take a vital 7-3 heat win and put A&T 6 points ahead with one race to go. Even then, the drama wasn't over. Hull's Lewis Foxley raced away to complete his maximum score, whilst his partner Noah Lyon carted his inexperienced opponents all over the track, in an attempt to allow Foxley to lap them for a match winning 7-0! However, Oscar Belt and Mason Gallagher stuck manfully to their task and secured the necessary three points for A&T to seal an improbable, but hard earned, 91-89 victory.
