Sun 30th March North & Scotland League Div 2 & 3 Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley opened the North & Scotland League season with two convincing wins over Heckmondwike at Gin Pit. Track conditions were dry and dusty on a bright sunny day, with a decent sized crowd in attendance.

In the Division 2 match, Heckmondwike kept the scores close early on, with A&T leading 26-23 after five heats. The home team then posted four 7-3 heat wins in the next five races,, to move into a 58-41 lead. Heckmondwike claimed inside grids for the remainder of the match, as A&T recorded another two 7-3s late on, to run out 87-62 winners. For A&T Frank White and Paul Graham both raced unbeaten, with Frank setting the fastest time of the day, 44.91 seconds, in heat 15. Oscar Belt had an excellent match with three race wins, with Emily Burgess and Steve Harris both scoring well. The opening pair of Darren Kent and Elliot Long were best for Heckmondwike, with Darren winning three races.

A&T began their defence of the Northern League Division 3 title with an emphatic 108-13 win. Alex Lawless raced unbeaten in the u-10 category, whilst Josh Pilkington top scored in the u-13 category.
