Astley & Tyldesley riders were
well represented at Bury for the re-arranged Northern Junior Individual
Championships on Saturday. Pre-match favourite Becky Heslop, the British No.2,
failed to arrive in time for the U-13 event and missed the match. John Nuttall
scored 16 and finished 5th after coming 3rd in a three man run-off for 3rd
place. Other A & T scorers were Daniel Swales (14) and Dylan Radcliffe (10).
Sheffield's Ashley Birks won with a 20 points maximum. Both Rob Longworth and
Warren Mee finished with 10 points in the U-16 category. Tameside's Chris Eaton
beat Bury's Tom Doyle in a run -off to win the U-16 title, with Sheffield's Jono
Birks winning the U-19 event. In the Chairman's Cup event that followed, Jeff
Radcliffe was eliminated in the semi-finals after scoring 11 points in
the qualifiers, whilst Chris Smith and Mike Hack were eliminated after both
scoring 9 points in the qualifiers.
