A&Ts 2004 Squad

(2004 Web-site Archive)

Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Cycle Speedway have completed the signings of their squad for the forthcoming season. 16 riders have signed up to represent the Gin Pit based CTA Direct sponsored club in official events. 12 have signed up on full registrations, with the other 4 on secondary registrations from other clubs.

Polish stars Przemek Binkowski (from Torun) and Tomek Wlodarczyk (from Czestochowa) both return to spearhead the A & T 1st team in the Northern League. They will be ably assisted by new captain Jeff Radcliffe, Chris Smith and Warren Mee, who have all impressed in pre-season training on their new bikes. Youngsters Rob Longworth and Becky Heslop should complete the 1st team line-up, with veterans Mike Hack and Roy Heslop ready to fill in as needed. Stoke stars Garry Pearce and Frank Finnigan both return to A & T as secondary registrations, along with new signing from Scotia, Ewan Tulloch, also on a secondary. These three will provide much needed experience to complement the enthusiastic inexperience of the home based riders, although their availability is restricted by their parent club commitments in other leagues.

In junior events, A & T will field Warren Mee, Rob Longworth and Becky Heslop, along with Daniel Swales, John Nuttall and Dylan Radcliffe. Stoke's Joe Twiss has also joined the squad, as a secondary registration rider available when fixtures permit.

This is the best squad of riders that A & T have had for eight years, and the club are quietly confident that the steady progress of the past three seasons will be continued.

The club are always looking to add to the squad, and to this end, training sessions continue to be held every Tuesday at 7 pm, at the cycle speedway circuit at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, Gt. Manchester. Newcomers will be made welcome.
