Astley & Tyldesley were
well represented in the British Indoor Championships at Fit City Broughton,
Salford over the weekend. A & T lined up in a tough Team Semi-Final, against
three of last year's four finalists. Former British Indoor Champion Chris
Finnigan displayed all his class, as he raced to a brilliantly taken maximum
score, cutting through the field in each race with consumate ease. The rest of
the team battled hard, but in the end were several points short of qualifying
for the final. Stockport and Wednesfield qualified for the final, and it was the
West Midlanders who took the title, after a tie break against Horspath (Oxford).

In the Individual
Championships, a gate exclusion in his fourth race proved costly for Chris
Finnigan, as he finished in 6th place overall with a 13 points score in the
Senior Final. Earlier Chris had recorded another brilliantly taken maximum score
in the 1st semi-final, whilst Trevor Hulton was unlucky to be drawn in a much
tougher 2nd semi-final. His 13 points score meant that he qualified for the
final as 1st reserve. In the Veterans Final, Mike Hack scored 12 points to
finish in 8th place, whilst George Hughes scored 8 to finish 11th.

Lee Aris beat Steve Harris in run-off

Some bad news - Wayne Aris
broke his hip in a fall in the second heat of the day on Sunday.
He is now in Ward B5 at
Hope Hospital, Salford, where he was due to undergo surgery today. Our best
wishes go to him for a full and speedy recovery.
