Terrific news is that Astley & Tyldesley will be members of the British Premier
League in 2007! The British Cycle Speedway Commission accepted Astley &
Tyldesley's application to join the enlarged league, at the Commission meeting
in Birmingham on Saturday. A & T's application went through a rigorous vetting
procedure, to see that they met the criteria necessary to compete in British
cycle speedway's top league competition. A & T, along with fellow newcomers,
Coventry and Sheffield, will line-up in the Premier League, along with the
existing eight clubs - Bury, Horspath (Oxford), Leicester, Norwich, Poole,
Sandwell, Southampton, Wednesfield (Wolverhampton).
A jubilant A & T Club Chairman, Mike
Hack, said "This is terrific news for the club. We've worked hard for this over
the past 17 years, developing the club and facilities, rising up through the
leagues, to make it through to the sport's top league. We've improved as a team
during each of the last six seasons, and we are looking to maintain that
improvement now that we are in the Premier League."
