Former A&T Rider Dies in Tragic Accident

Former Astley & Tyldesley cycle speedway rider Ben Keen has been killed in a motorcycle accident at Butts Bridge near Leigh.

Teenager Ben was riding his motocross bike along the canal towpath at the back of Bedford High School in Leigh.  He lost control of the motorbike, hit a cyclist and was thrown from the motorbike, hitting a solid block of concrete resulting in fatal head injuries.  Ben was air-lifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Astley & Tyldesley club officials were shocked by the news of Ben’s sudden death.

“We've learned of the very sad news our former rider Ben Keen was

killed after falling from his motocross bike” said Mike Hack.

“Ben rode for the club during the 2008 and 2009 seasons in under-16 events.  Our sincerest condolences go to his family and friends.”
