Astley & Tyldesley hosted their Annual Presentation & Social Evening at the
Miners' Welfare Club. 75 people attended the event, which consisted of music,
DVD footage of the club's matches during the year, an appearance by Wigan's
Olympics Ambassador Trevor Barton MBE as guest speaker, a splendid buffet and of
course, the presentation of many awards to the club's riders, officials and
volunteers.
44 rider awards were presented, with many of the club's new riders present to
receive their awards on the night. In addition to the presentation of trophies
for competitions already won on the track, there were four special awards
presented on the night. Callum Maguire won the North West Trophies Cup for being
the Best Novice, Ciaran Collins won the Rory Blackwell Cup for being the Best
Newcomer, Matthew Snell won the Most Improved Rider Award and Max Evans won the
J. Fisher & Sons Cup for being the Young Rider of the Year.
The A & T club has long appreciated the value of its officials and volunteer
helpers and 17 people received their customary present from the club in
recognition of their efforts during the past year. This year's winner of the Ron
Hack Memorial Cup for the Volunteer of the Year was Will Evans. A special
presentation was made to the Wigan Unsung Hero in Sport winner June Phillips,
who is retiring after many years as the Club's Catering Manager.
It was another great evening's event, to celebrate the club's activities and
successes during 2012.
