A & T visited Bury for a local derby in the Northern
League. Bolstered by the debut of Polish star Pawel Kozlowski and strengthened
with the inclusion of secondary registrations from Stoke, Garry Pearce and Rob
Machin, A & T were confident of giving their local rivals a close run.
Kozlowski won the opening heat, and with Binkowski in his usual tremendous form,
A & T held the home team to just 2 points after five heats. Although Bury
stretched the lead to six points by the interval, A & T were far from out of
it and were confident of pulling back the deficit. Instead the opposite
happened, and A & T fell apart in the second half, as Bury romped away to
record a 86-60 win. The scoreline certainly didn't do the CTA Direct sponsored
side justice and didn't reflect the close racing in a hard fought
encounter. However, on a dry slippery, rutted track, A & T were on
the wrong end of all the bad luck going, and on the wrong end of several
contentious refereeing decisions.
Przemek Binkowski was tremendous for A & T, losing only once, but both
Pawel Kozlowski (fresh from a 30 hour coach journey from Poland) and Garry
Pearce were well below their usual high scores, despite making some excellent
starts.
