Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Cycle Speedway team traveled to
Stockport for the 5th Round of the Northern Fours and Junior League series.
Astonishingly the home Stockport team failed to put in an appearance,
although there were sufficient officials present to run the full race meeting.
In the opening match this left Astley & Tyldesley to do battle with Hull,
with both teams recording default wins in their races against Stockport. Three
of the four races were drawn 5-5, with a 6-4 heat win to the Binkowski / Hack
pairing over Schofield / Goff proving decisive in ensuring that A & T won by
two points.

In the Northern Junior League match, A & T finished in 2nd place overall,
to move into 2nd place in the table, 5 points behind leaders Sheffield.
Becky Heslop raced unbeaten for the fourth successive match in the U-13
category, to move into 2nd place, just 2 points behind the series leader. John
Nuttall and young Dylan Radcliffe both put in determined performances to score
well. Warren Mee put in an improved performance in the U-16 event, whilst Mike
Hack extended his lead in the Senior Combination series, with Roy Heslop
retaining overall 2nd position.
