Astley & Tyldesley visited Bury on Thursday evening
for a Northern League match. After a day's heavy rain, the track held up well,
but was wet and slippery, which added interest to the proceedings.
Bury took the lead with a 7-3 to Scranage and Doyle in
heat 2, after Wlodarczyk slipped, and the home team extended the lead to 8
points with a Doyle / Jarman 7-3 over Smith and Mee in heat 4. Wlodarczyk / C.
Finnigan immediately hit back with a 7-3 in the next race over Scranage /
Rothwell. The next 3 races were drawn leaving Bury to hold a 4 points lead at
the break. Heat 9 saw Doyle pass Radcliffe on the last lap to stop an A & T.
7-3, with Mee the winner. Binkowski slipped at the start of the next race, but
passed Dyson to salvage 3rd place, behind Wlodarczyk and Scranage, as another
6-4 to A & T. levelled the scores. The visitors took the lead for the first
time with a 6-4 to Wlodarczyk and Smith in heat 12 over Dyson and Whiting.
However, Bury regained the lead when Whiting / Jarman took a 7-3 over Smith /
Longworth in heat 14, to put the home team 2 points up going into the last race.
C. Finnigan held his grid 1, with Dyson holding Binkowski and Rothwell out.
Binkowski put Dyson under great pressure, and when Dyson slipped, Binkowski was
past in a flash to join his partner for a match winning 7-3 heat win.
In a hard fought, but very sporting, local derby, Astley
& Tyldesley recorded their first win at Bury since 1995. Wlodarczyk and
Binkowski were in great form, each winning four races. C. Finnigan dropped just
1 point from his three rides, with F. Finnigan combining well with his partner
in his two races. Whereas A & T. had the edge with their 'A' grade riders,
Bury had the edge with their 'B' grade riders, with Jarman and Doyle both
scoring freely. Astley & Tyldesley have now won all three matches ridden in
this league so far this season.
