Astley & Tyldesley had three riders, who had
qualified for the National Rounds of the British Youth & Junior Grand Prix
series, in action at the first National Round at Swindon on Saturday.
Becky Heslop went into the match as joint leader
of the U-14 category, having raced unbeaten throughout the Regional Rounds. She
received the applause from the large crowd, as she dominated the qualifying
races, winning all her four races, and convincingly beating her two main rivals
in the series. This put her in the Grand Prix 'A' Final. Unfortunately for
Becky, she drew the unfavourable outside start position, didn't make a good
start, and then fell whilst trying to move into 3rd position. This result means
that she is now in 2nd place in the series, four points behind Exeter's Sam
Wyatt and three points ahead of Ipswich's Joshua Brooke, with two rounds
remaining.
Dylan Radcliffe put in a great performance in the
U-10 category, dropping just one point in his qualifying races. This also put
him in the Grand Prix 'A' Final, and again he finished 4th, after slipping
whilst trying to move into 3rd place. This result means that he is now in 3rd
place in the series, nineteen points behind the leader Jack Bartram of Kesgrave,
with two rounds remaining.
5 year old Ellie Radcliffe put in a spirited
showing in the U-8 category, and she finished in 12th place on the day.
