Sun 2nd October Astley & Tyldesley v Birmingham Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley entertained Birmingham in a Midlands/North League Division 1 match at Gin Pit on Sunday. Having ran Birmingham fairly close in the away match in June, A & T were hopeful of making home track advantage count and take the win. Unfortunately, a disastrous opening saw A & T concede four race defeats, to trail by 13 points after heat 6. A & T improved after that, but Birmingham were quite content to sit on their lead, as A & T claimed inside grids throughout the second half. The visitors ran out deserved 96-80 winners at the end of the 18 heats.

Skipper Chris Finnigan was in great form for A & T, dropping just one point, to Paul Timms in heat 12. Returnee Trevor Hulton won two races, after running two last places. For Birmingham, the veteran Timms lost only to Finnigan in heat 17, with Marcus Wadhams losing only to Finnigan and Hulton.
