Sun 13th May | Astley & Tyldesley v Edinburgh | Astley & Tyldesley | |
Edinburgh were the visitors to Gin Pit for Sunday's Northern League fixture. Rain fell throughout the match, resulting in some slips on the grid, but the track held up well and a great match took place. Edinburgh suffered a blow when Lee Lawrence fell heavily on the straight in the opening race, putting him out of the rest of the match. Astley & Tyldesley quickly opened up an 8 points lead with two 7-3s, but were pegged back as twice Darek Kurkowski was forced off the track, to leave him scoreless from those races. Edinburgh's 2 points lead was shortlived though, as A & T levelled the scores in the next race. In the penultimate race, young Joe Allen pulled off a great win, taking Mikey Hewitson on the line, and with Roy Heslop 3rd, this put A & T two points in front going into the last race. Tomasz Wlodarczyk and Chris Finnigan (pictured) took the first two places, to go through the match unbeaten by an opponent, after Alan Smith was excluded for putting Finnigan on the grass, as A & T secured a very hard fought 77-70 win.
