First up saw Adam Phillips racing unbeaten in the U-10 category, to take the title, with teammate Joel Partington taking runners-up position, losing only to Adam. Mike Hack took third place in the Veterans category, which was won by Darren Kent of Heckmondwike. Finally, the main event of the day, the Senior category, saw Tomasz Wlodarczyk race unbeaten to take the title - the third time in the last five years that one of A & T's Polish riders has become Northern Champion. Darek Kurkowski finished third, after beating Bury's Neil Howarth in a run-off, with Stockport's former British Champion Terry Norman taking second place. A & T's Widnes based rider, Laura Allen, took second place in the Young Sportsperson of the Year category in the Halton Sports Awards, for her achievements in a wide range of cycling disciplines. Laura has also been selected to race for the North West team at the prestigious Revolution Track meetings at the Manchester Velodrome this winter.
Commiserations go to both Chris Finnigan and Joe Allen, who are both on
the injured list at the moment. We wish both riders a full and speedy
recovery. |
