Astley & Tyldesley hosted the
Manchester League U-13 and U-19 Individual Championships at Gin Pit on
Wednesday evening.
A & T's Adam Phillips raced to an untroubled maximum score to win the
U-13 event. Stockport's Matt Turner was runner-up, dropping just one
point, with A & T's Reece Pollitt a further point behind.

The U-19 event followed and pre-match favourite, Stockport's Ben Higham,
opened with two wins, beating first Adam Phillips and then A & T's Luke
Jamson. Stockport's Jake Read also started with two wins, before lining
up against Higham in heat 7. Read took his third win after Higham
received a gate exclusion and suddenly the championship was wide open.
Phillips and Jamson won their next race each, to set up the decisive
race, in heat 11. Phillips lined up on grid 1 on 11 points, Read on grid
2 on 12 points, with Jamson on grid 3 on 11 points. The race was stopped
after Read and Jamson fell on the first bend. In the re-run, Phillips
held his grid and got away for the win, with Jamson diving inside Read
going into the pits bend and then hanging on to take 2nd place. This
race win secured the U-19 title for Adam Phillips. Jake Read and Luke
Jamson lined up for a run-off for 2nd place, which saw Jamson gate
across from grid 4 and then hang on to take the race win and 2nd place
on the night.
This was a surprise, but deserved win for British U-13 Champion Adam
Phillips, who became the youngest ever winner of this long standing
championship.
